Chesapeake Assessment Scenario Tool (CAST)

Allows users to develop and compare scenarios using various best management practices within the Chesapeake Bay watershed.  Results can be used to select practices that reduce the most pollution and are most cost-effective, for use in local planning and/or in implementing Watershed Implementation Plans.  Outputs include nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment load reductions from all sectors and sources, acres treated, and cost.

Stormwater Pollution Benchmarking Tool

This stormwater benchmarking tool can be applied to existing individual industrial, municipal, federal, corporate or institutional facilities less than 50 acres in size within the Bay watershed. It provides a quantitative score to measure whether a facility is dirty, clean or green and helps the users come up with action list of pollution prevention, stormwater retrofit, land management and watershed stewardship practices to implement at the site.

Strengthening Verification of Best Management Practices Implemented in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed: A Basinwide Framework

Presents findings from the Chesapeake Bay Program Water Quality Goal Implementation Team's BMP Verification Committee.  Provides a detailed framework by which Bay Program partners will build rigor and transparency in the process of verfiying the functionality of best management practices (BMPs) that are installed to reduce nutrient and sediment pollution in the Bay watershed.

BMP Inspection and Maintenance

A key component of sustainable stormwater management is ensuring that practices claimed for pollutant reduction credit actually exist, are working as intended, and are maintained properly. Without sufficient inspection and maintenance procedures, practices may suffer from reduced water quality function and lose other community benefits.  This webpage from the Chesapeake Stormwater Network contains resources on BMP inspection and maintenance including recommended guidance documents and six webcasts.

Urban Stormwater Verification Guidance

This 14-page report provides guidance on how to verify the performance of urban BMPs in the Bay watershed.  The guide is organized into 8 parts:

1. The Need for BMP Verification and the Chesapeake Bay Program partners’ Process to Define it

2. Key Verification Definitions

3. Background on Urban BMP Verification

4. Verification Guidance for BMPs Located in MS4 areas

5. Verification Guidance for BMPs Located in non-MS4 areas

6. Verification Guidance for Non-Regulatory BMPs

7. Verification Guidance for Legacy BMPs
