Brier’s Mill Run Stream Restoration

Project Location: Riverdale Park, MD

Problem:  Riverdale Park is a densely-populated community in Prince George’s County with a high level of impervious cover.  Stormwater runoff from the community had severely eroded the stream channel of Brier’s Mill Run, a tributary of the Anacostia River.  In addition, stormwater carried silt, trash and pollutants to the creek and created unsightly and unsafe conditions at the community’s middle school, where a majority of students are minority and low-income.

St. Luke’s Tree Planting and Invasive Plant Removal

Project Location: Annapolis, MD

Problem:  The property of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Annapolis’ Eastport neighborhood includes a wooded area that had been overtaken by invasive plants, putting the tree canopy in danger of failing. This posed serious safety risks and threatened to undermine the site’s biodiversity and ecological integrity.

Berlin West Street Retrofit

Project location: Berlin, MD

Problem:  Berlin had been experiencing significant stormwater problems at a busy intersection in the heart of downtown.  The area was prone to erosion and flooding, putting both businesses and residences at risk.  In addition, poorly-managed stormwater conveyed pollutants to Trappe Creek, a tributary of Newport Bay.

Old Bay Ridge Road Step Pool Conveyance System

Project location: Annapolis, MD

Problem:  In Annapolis’ Bay Ridge neighborhood, a culvert at Cat Hole Creek had become overwhelmed by the volume of stormwater flowing from surrounding areas during rain events.  Excess water had eroded the hillside near the culvert and caused sinkholes to form, making the area unsafe for Bay Ridge residents who had enjoyed swimming in the Creek.

Mill Creek Tributary Step Pool Conveyance System

Problem: A 600-foot tributary to Mill Creek had become severely eroded and was starting to undermine the integrity of structures in the surrounding area. The degraded tributary was damaging property values, endangering community assets, and contributing polluted waters to the Magothy River.
